It might seem that only people with cash should use a Cash App, but this is far from true. In fact, it’s a quick and convenient way to pay online or almost anywhere without having to worry about carrying cash around with you.
An internet connection and a smartphone are all you need (which most people already have). Using Cash App, users can store currency of their choice in their digital wallet, then use it to make purchases. In order to send or receive money via Cash App, you will need your Social Security Number.
For sending and receiving without limitations, though, you need a social security number. Despite not having a SSN or choosing not to provide one when registering, you can still use the app. Discover how to use Cash App without a social security number and what you need to know about social security numbers.
What’s a SSN?
SSN stands for social security number. The number is nine-digits and is issued to all Americans after their birth (if they were born in the US), as well as to several immigrant residents depending on circumstances.
Why do we need a Social Security Number? Your social security benefits are based on your lifelong earnings and your earnings throughout your life. As well as identifying yourself when completing official documents, you can also use it when applying for certain products, like credit cards or bank accounts.
As it stands, it is probably the most important identifying number in the US, aside from your passport number. Apply for a SSN if you don’t have one. To get this, you must prove that you are a US citizen or lawful permanent resident.
As far as such proof goes, the government notes that “if you do not hold a US passport, we will need to see your US immigration documents and your foreign passport with biographical data or a photo.” Read more about applying for a Social Security number here.
Does Cash App Ask for a SSN?
Sadly, yes. Nevertheless, they are trying to do the right thing. The app verifies every user’s identity to prevent fraud and scams. They collect your SSN to facilitate this process.
Please note that Cash App can be downloaded and accounts can be opened without a Social Security number. Unverified users will be categorized as such. Verified users must provide a Social Security Number.
It’s still possible to send and receive cash as an unverified user. It’s important to keep in mind there is a limit to how much you’re able to send. During a seven-day period, the maximum amount of money you can send is $250 and the maximum amount you can receive is $1,000.
